For the past few months, I've been working in the Hat's indy bookstore. Much like working in the garden centre, I might as well just handover my paycheque and grab all the things I've set aside. Like these:
Hope and Destiny - This is the first of a trilogy about a time and place in history that I know nothing about. Author Niklas Natt och Dag has a close tie to the Kalmar Union and it's final demise around 1434. He is part of the Swedish Noble dynasty that dates back to the 13th C. He is also a well-known Swedish author. Up to this point his subject matter focused on the 1700's. I've read the first chapter of Hope and Destiny and it jumps in right away. Dense descriptions with lots of background and details.
This may be a mishmash of all the things that catch my interest: Books, gardening, history. Or it might be a source of inspiration.

As the TBR pile increases - Medieval version.
The Once and Future Sex: Going Medieval on Women's Roles in Society - I've read a few books on the role of gender and sex in history. So it's not surpising that this book caught my attention. The title & concept are agressive and a call to action. With a basis in historical examples of women who went beyond the male concept of womanhood, I am intrigued about how the author, Eleanor Janega, can connect them to our lives today. Oh, and I just found a YT video.
